What they have to say about it...
" Working with musicians as gifted as those
from both the Concert de l'Hostel Dieu and the group Garlic Bread, the
result is quite simply superb… "
Le Progrès, daily newspaper
" The longing to dance was great but you
content yourself to clapping along to these devilish rhythms… "
Le Patriote Beaujolais, weekly newspaper
" Time seems to fly thanks to the smooth
and seemingly effortless set of Ballads, reels, narrations, and songs,
giving the privileged listener the itch to jig and the need to stamp the
beat for want of being able to dance (…) A potion against gloominess to
be taken in large doses... "
Lyon Figaro, daily newspaper
" A breath of fresh air for a warm summer's
eve (…) An unforgettable night in the presence of Carolan, the mythical
Irish harpist of the 17th and 18th century "
Ouest France, daily newspaper

During the show "Carolan's Dream" the readings of texts and anecdotes alternate
with musical compositions by O'Carolan, the travelling Irish harpist and
poet.
 |
From the very first notes of music, you cannot help
wanting to dance... From the very first readings you are swept away
by the magical stories of mermaids, giants and ghosts, bathed in a
light reminiscent of the great Flemish masters, the atmosphere of
the show is one that comes straight from picturesque Irish taverns.
Carolan's Dream lifts the veil on the musical and poetic universe
of Turlough O'Carolan who one day, at the turn of a path, discovers
the music of the Italian composers Vivaldi and Corelli, and takes
pleasure in blending the music of the bard and baroque references. |
In this creation which mixes theatre and music, the spectator
enters the surprising universe of O'Carolan thanks to the journal imagined
and interpreted by Yves Pignard and through the poems written by the musician
which unveil his wanderings, his unconditional love of life, good food and
fine wine, those muses which personify Ireland. The melodies which accompany
the texts are in turn bewitching, intrepid, sparkling, all underlined by
the colourful sonorities of age-old and traditional Irish instruments.
The show is also available in its concert
version.
